Holidays Afloat in the Heart of Ireland
Portumna is situated at the northern end of Lough Derg, where visiting boats can drop anchor and moor in safety at the marina in Portumna Bay.
It is also a cruiser base and the town itself is just a few minutes walk away. There are many points of interest in the town that are well worth making a visit into town to see.
Portumna Castle has recently been restored to its former glory, and dominates the town’s skyline, rising majestically above the treetops.
The Forest Park along the lake shore is over a thousand acres in size and is a sanctuary for many species of wildlife including the native Irish deer – the red deer. Here you can enjoy many nature trails and beautiful forest walks.
For those who want to get active, Portumna offers the opportunity to enjoy many sports including golf, tennis, pony trekking, horse riding and fishing.
Check out the pubs at the end of the day for traditional Irish music, live entertainment and a cooling pint or two of Guinness.
