Cruising the delights of the Southern Germany
The beautiful river Saar – from which our base takes its name – meanders charmingly through the forested Hunstruck region of the central uplands of Germany and makes for a peaceful and cultural cruising holiday for amateur and experienced cruisers (with navigation licences) alike. From Saarbrucken you can easily venture northwards into nearby Luxembourg or cruise south towards Strasbourg and the historic towns of north-eastern France.
Connecting with the majestic Moselle, with its castles and vineyards adorning the flanks of its valleys, provides a range of perfect cruising routes for the more adventurous cruiser. Equaly, you can navigate the Saar-Kohle-Kanal and the Canal del la Marne to beautiful places such as the angler’s paradise of Gondrexange or arguably the most beautiful canal-side village in this part of France, Lutzelbourg.
For the wine connoisseurs among you, this is one of the most important top quality Riesling regions in the world and to not stop at one of the many vineyards on your travels and taste for yourself the fruits of their labours would be a sin indeed! Combine this with some of the region’s best-loved dishes – Schwenkbraten (marinated port cooked on a rotisserie) or Dibbelabbes (a potato soufflé with bacon) and you will, for a while at least, be in a gastronomic haven – which is yours to enjoy for as long as you want.

BASE OPENING HOURS
Monday - Sunday: 08:30 - 18:00
LATE ARRIVALS
The base appreciate to be informed in advance when customers expect to arrive later than 18.00. If you are delayed during the journey, please telephone on 0049 (0) 681 967 070 so that the boat can be left open for you in case of very late arrival.
CREDIT CARDS/TRAVELLERS CHEQUES
Saarbrücken accept the following Credit Cards for payment of Security/Fuel Deposit, Collision Damage Waiver and Optional Extras - Visa, Mastercard, Eurocard.
Travellers Cheques are not accepted.
CAR PARKING
Enclosed Parking 200m from the base - 5.15€ per day
PROVISIONS
By car – Shopping centre Saar-Basar which is 10 minutes from the base. Here you will also find a bank pharmacy and post office.
By boat – You can moor in the middle of town below the Staatsheater free of charge which is 15 minutes cruising time from the base.
In Staatsheater there is an excellent shopping centre in the pedestrian zone which is a 5 minute walk from the mooring place.

FISHING
Fishing is allowed on the canal all season. A Fishing Licence is required (not for under 16s). A holiday licence is possible and can be purchased in Saargemund/France.

| By Road - (approx 5½ hrs from Calais) |
| Channel tunnel - then through Belgium (recommended route).
From Calais follow the E40 through Belgium to Bruges, then take the A10/E40 to Brussels, then the A4/E411 towards Luxembourg, through Arlon. Following signs to Saarbrücken you will reach German A8 motorway. Cross Saarlouis and take the A620 to Saarbrücken. |

From Calais follow the A26 east to Reims, then take the A4 through Metz to Saarbrücken. Follow Luxembourg/Koln or Mannheim/Paris to A620 Saarbrücken. Exit at junction 19, St Arunal, following St Johann over the bridge. After the bridge follow signs for Charter-Hafen. |
